The University of Exeter in partnership with the University of Falmouth wanted an identity, event and promotional materials for a sustainability conference called “Falmouth Energy Week” to be held in Cornwall. The design style for the conference needed to be simplistic, but could not relate to one specific type of sustainable or renewable energy source as professionals from so many different fields of energy were attending. The conference has been running since 2009 to present in varying capacities and locations.
The whole identity was based upon the theme of new ideas and people coming together. The logo also has a secondary meaning of the generation of new ideas ‘bubbling’ away from the conference and changing our future. Compositional vector graphics were created from simple and highly recognisable graphic icons representing the ever-growing amount of renewable energies. This further emphasises the ‘meeting of minds’ and would potentially change shape and icon content depending on location and topic.
